There are all sorts of reports up and down the Halifax. Stein said they had reports of redfish, snook, flounder, bluefish and sheepshead around the north jetty, before the wind. PONCE INLET, HALIFAX RIVER: The inlet continues to hold good-sized sheepshead, according to Lytwyn. “They were catching triggerfish, black sea bass and cobia on the bottom,” he added. Lytwyn said while there has been no news in the last two or three days, they were catching wahoo and sailfish in 200- to 250-feet of water. “At least there’s some meat on the dock,” he said. The guys bottom fishing were catching a bunch of red snapper, redeyes and triggerfish.” Jeff Burkhead at Fishin’ Cove Bait & Tackle, New Smyrna Beach, said the only boat out came back with jacks. “We were seeing kings, wahoo and dolphin on the troll. “They had a great couple of days,” Stein said. Great fishing until the wind stirred up the ocean waters. We are hoping the wind subsides and fishing goes back to normal.” The same varieties of fish were being caught off the beach by surfcasters until the wind caused the sea to churn. “Prior to that, they were doing quite well on whiting, good numbers of bluefish and spotted sea trout. “It has been way too windy to fish out there,” Lytwyn said.

Gene Lytwyn at The Fishin’ Hole in downtown Daytona Beach had the same sort of report for the Daytona Beach Pier.

Evan Stein at Fishing Shack Bait & Tackle in Daytona Beach Shores said the Sunglow Pier was busting with sheepshead, pompano, whiting, redfish and black drum, before the blow.

SURF, PIERS: Up until the wind arrived in the area, pier and surf anglers were having a field day in the waters from Matanzas Inlet down to New Smyrna Beach.
